Bionic eye is closer to reality
Sydney: Australian researchers say it could be after a few months to provide hope for people who suffer from macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa, the leading causes of vision loss in industrialized countries.
Fifteen years ago, and was based on the display to create e-Ain 1 in Australia, researchers at the universities of old stereo looting of the parties. But today, has 154 researchers, led by biomedical engineers at the University of New South Wales to be less than one year away from its goal of providing a vision for the degenerative eye disease patients.
In 1997, when work began, Greg Nigel Lovell Suaning and was without funds, but stubborn and researchers tearing the old stereo and spare parts in their attempts to build a bionic eye.
Today his work is a $ 42 million partnership between the University and the Institute of bionics, and eye research center in Australia, NICTA and the University of Melbourne.
Technology centers in transplantation are complex and contain a small of 98 electrodes, which are designed to stimulate nerve cells in the retina of the eye.
